Your business shouldn't have to work around its software.
Apps that don't talk to each other. Information entered twice. Old tools nobody understands anymore. I find what's causing the friction, fix what's worth fixing, and start with the software you already have.
Qualified projects include a free Systems Snapshot.
-
$0
for the 20-minute review, and a free Systems Snapshot when it's a fit
-
Flat price
quoted before any paid work starts, never hourly
The symptoms
Sound familiar?
Common across retail, restaurants, contractor shops, medical and dental practices, and small multi-location chains: the specifics differ, the friction doesn't.
-
The booking system that talks to nothing
Appointments in one tool, invoices in another, and someone retypes it all by hand.
-
The spreadsheet only one person understands
It quietly runs scheduling, inventory, or payroll. There's no backup, no documentation, and no obvious replacement if that person leaves.
-
The software a freelancer built and left behind
It mostly works. Nobody knows how, and nobody wants to touch it.
-
Thirty subscriptions with overlapping jobs
The software bill creeps up every year, and nobody's sure what's safe to cancel.
Your IT company keeps the computers running. Your software vendors support their own apps.
I fix what happens in between.
The process
How it works
-
Tell me what's frustrating you
A free 20-minute conversation about what's slowing the business down.
-
I'll take a closer look
When it's a good fit, I'll review one problem area and give you a free Systems Snapshot: written findings you keep.
-
Decide what to fix
If the problem is clear, I'll quote the work. If it needs deeper investigation first, I'll tell you and quote that separately. Or take the findings and do nothing. They're yours.
Approved work usually starts within a week.
What it costs
Know the price before work starts
It starts free.
- Free Systems Snapshot · $0
- One-session fixes · from $500
- Larger projects · from $2,000
You don't have to know which you need. That's what the free review is for.
Most paid work is either a contained fix or a larger project. Ongoing support is available when it makes sense.
Free · the usual first step
The Systems Snapshot
If I can help, I'll spend up to 90 minutes reviewing one problem area, free, and give you a one-page summary:
- What's worth fixing
- What's fine to leave alone
- What I'd charge, and the summary is yours to take anywhere.
When deeper investigation is needed
Some problems can't be responsibly priced from a quick review. If I need to trace several systems, review custom code, or investigate data before recommending a fix, I'll quote that work separately. Deeper investigations typically start at $500.
Who you're hiring
You work directly with me.
I'm Paul Goldman, a Mequon-based software engineer with more than 10 years of experience solving technology problems for businesses.
I started PG Tech Solutions to give small businesses experienced technical help without hiring a full-time developer or a large consulting firm. I work with what you already have first: connecting, repairing, and simplifying it, and recommending replacement only when that makes more sense.
No salesperson and no handoff. The person you talk to is the person doing the work.
Before you book
The questions owners ask first
Are you going to replace the software we already use?
Usually not. Replacement means training, migration, disruption, and risk, so my first preference is to make the software you've already paid for work better together. Replacing something only comes up when keeping it genuinely costs more than replacing it.
Is the price really flat, or does it turn into hourly billing?
Flat, not hourly. The price is fixed for the agreed scope and assumptions. If new information materially changes the scope, I stop, explain it, and provide a written change quote before proceeding.
Nothing is documented and the person who built our system is long gone. Can you work with that?
Yes. Reconstructing and stabilizing undocumented systems is a core part of my work. I also document what I touch, giving you a clear record for future maintenance.
Why work with you instead of my IT provider or software vendor?
Different layer. IT shops keep computers running; vendors support their own product. I complement both by focusing on the workflows and connections that cross between their systems.
More questions
What's the free Systems Snapshot?
A free 90-minute look at one system, offered after the 20-minute call when it's a good fit. I look for the obvious friction and likely opportunities, and you leave with a one-page summary: the top findings, the price to fix each, and what's fine as-is. It's yours to keep either way. The Snapshot deliberately stays on the surface: the moment something needs log analysis, code review, database work, or cross-system tracing, that's the Diagnostic's territory. I hold a few Snapshot slots each week.
What does the $500–1,000+ Diagnostic actually get me?
The investigation the Snapshot can't do: with proper access I trace workflows end to end, review configuration, code, and data, and find root causes, ending in a prioritized action plan: what's costing you money, what each fix costs, and what's fine as-is. Any safe, contained issue I find gets handled on the spot at no extra charge. The report is yours either way: use it with me, your own team, or anyone else. Price scales with scope: $500 Focused (one system), $750 Connected (two systems), $1,000 Operations (three to four). Five or more, or an unusually complex environment, gets a custom quote. You're not paying for a sales pitch.
What counts as one "system"?
A system generally means one primary software product and the business workflow being examined within it. Integrations, custom code, multiple departments, unusually complex configurations, or additional workflows may affect scope. Your quote identifies exactly what's included before work begins.
How do I know you won't "diagnose" your way into selling me a big project?
The Diagnostic is a fixed price, separate from implementation: you're buying a defined investigation, not feeding a meter. The free Snapshot works the same way: every finding comes with a price you can take anywhere, including to someone who isn't me. If the right answer is "leave it alone," "call your vendor," or "this is a one-session fix," that's what the report says.
Who actually does the work?
Me, personally: every call, every fix. You're hiring the engineer you spoke with, not a salesperson who hands the work to someone else.
What if something you fixed stops working a month later?
If an issue results from my work, I'll correct it at no additional charge. If a vendor update or an unrelated change causes a new issue, that's separate work, and I'll explain the distinction clearly. The optional Care Plan is available for ongoing monitoring and maintenance.
What access do you need, and is our data safe?
Only what the work requires: ideally a separate account with limited access, never your master password. Access is documented and removed when the engagement ends, and the findings report lists exactly what was touched. I also carry general liability and professional liability (tech E&O) coverage; certificate available on request.
Twenty minutes. Free. No obligation.
Bring me the problem that's wasting your team's time. In 20 minutes, we'll figure out the most sensible next step. And once it's fixed, you stop thinking about it.
